Top 10 Things Your Child Should Know about God
September 10, 2018
Does your child (or teenager) really believe these 10 things? What might they say that will surprise you?
Pull ‘em aside and ask if they’ll count to 10 with you. These read like milk, but they’re more like meat. Maybe you can discuss just one a day. Scripture references are provided in the list further below for parent’s inspiration and guidance.
The top 10:
- I have a Father up in heaven. He’s there all the time.
- My Father in heaven knows me and really, really loves me.
- Earth is very different from heaven.
- Everyone does bad things here. Me too.
- Jesus is like a great big light bulb. He helps us see what’s good.
- Jesus wants me to act more like Him, but I can’t do that without His help.
- My Father in heaven wants me to talk to Him every day, all day.
- I’m happier when I follow Jesus (even if other people don’t follow Him).
- When I follow Jesus, his light shines through me too!
- Jesus helps me to love everyone (even people who aren’t nice to me).
Often the basics are best.
Jesus taught, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14).
The light of His life will fill us if we take his teachings in with a simple, believing heart.
How about You?
How have you been blessed as you’ve shifted your focus from complex, adult, mental activities to simple faith in the essentials of life?
Are you alert to the difference between “understanding” something and believing it so deeply that it changes how you feel and how you act? Do you just understand those 10 points or do you truly believe them?
